The little girl tells wolf stories to her very attentive dog (perhaps the wolf and the dog of LA FONTAINE). This sculpture is inspired by the recurring theme of portraits of children and their pets that started in the 18th century. Perhaps this is why the work is more detailed and realistic than usual. I have often taken up this theme of the little girl pulling the lion's tail, undoubtedly to ward off the fear that, as a child, I felt at the Vincennes zoo when hearing the roar of the lions! The beast has transformed into an accomplice, defeated by the innocence of the little girl. No, he won't make her his meal!

Here is the last available copy of this sculpture. I then worked a lot on the rhino/giraffe couple in a humorous way. I am very tall in the same way as the giraffe and, when I was younger, I was often subjected to the mocking remarks of men.
