Drum Shaman Bear

I discovered at the flea market a very beautiful old photo of a Central Asian shaman wearing a bear skin, the animal's head covering his skull. I also remember a scene from a western by the Coen brothers “TRUE GRIT” in which we see a healer on horseback covered in bear skin emerge from a dark forest, a rather exceptional scene. These representations made their way into my head, inviting me to reverse the subject.

I could have covered my bear statue with a man's skin (I don't rule out the idea!) but the image of a shaman bear summoning the spirit of the river for an abundant catch imposed itself on me.

This animal sculpture thus joins the series of “bears and fish”

Warm brown patina, iron nitrate fish
